November 2nd and 3rd, 2007 plays host to the annual Operating Board of Directors Meeting for MEDICO held in Georgetown, Texas. This annual gathering of leadership of MEDICO institutes the plan of humanitarian response for 2008 as well as lays the foundation for operational management of this organization for the future. In addition, the annual meeting provides for reflection on the successes and challenges MEDICO has faced in past fiscal year.
MEDICO gratefully appreciates the operational board members commitment and service to providing effective leadership. These wonderful men and women give of their time and resources to ensure MEDICO remains one of the most highly respected non-profit organizations serving in Central America, both now and for years to come.

Project Honduras Conference
(article written by Brian Crowe, Director of Operations for MEDICO)
This past week I had the privilege of attending an NGO conference in Copan Ruinas, Honduras. The conference is called Project Honduras and involves NGO's who serve Honduras from literally around the world. This was the 8th year this conference has been held and the 5th or 6th one held in Honduras. (the first couple were held in Washington DC) I went representing MEDICO and our interests in Honduras. I had no detailed idea about what to expect which gave me the opportunity to be open to all the presentations and dialogs that would ensue.
It was a profound chance to visit with other passionate people who care for the men, women and children of this wonderful country. I engaged with representatives of organizations who, similarly, are very focused on their strategic initiatives. It was rewarding to measure our efforts collectively, seeing the progress that has truly been made in a country where health-care and the humanitarian concerns take a back-burner to the government agendas of many regimes. Clearly NGO efforts are being made and measurable progress is being achieved. This is all in Honduran time - a critical component of the measure in all the work we do.
What was the net outcome of the Project Honduras conference? In my assessment there were some very important networking connections that were made. These are connections with other organizations that similarly do what MEDICO does. Certainly there is truth the statement, "why reinvent the wheel?". Additionally, I felt a sense of optimism for the future growth and development of our humanitarian service organization. MEDICO does have a good model of NGO care in place and as we acknowledge and respond to the cultural trends of our effort, we will continue to impact the lives of people with an unsurpassed quality of care. It will take commitment and effort and thankfully, we have the skill set to manage this impending growth curve.

The word on the street is...
Connection.
Connecting with MEDICO through the web, through our newsletters, through network groups.
As of recent, we've been generating a 'buzz' of connection around MEDICO through our personal presentations delivered at many civic organizations, churches, and small groups. Director of Operations, Brian Crowe has been making the rounds connecting these group with the on-going efforts of MEDICO through presentations that include multimedia. It's a great way to get the very latest information on MEDICO through a first-hand connection.
If you are a member of a club or organization looking for a unique and dynamic program of any length, give us a call. We're happy to share the MEDICO story in partnership with your own connection to MEDICO. If the distance is too great from the MEDICO office, we'll send you a DVD video along with handout materials for you to share with your group. The video is only 5 minutes and does a fantastic job of presenting the work of MEDICO with current pictures, images, and statistics. Give us a call at 512-930-1893 or email us at medico@medico.org.
The word on the street is connection, your connection with MEDICO and your ability to connect others with the work done in Central America.
